New enhancements are underway at Peterloon, a historic Cincinnati estate in Indian Hill. Since the establishment of the Peterloon Foundation in 1979, this Cincinnati treasure has been a unique event venue for guests to commemorate their most important life events in the splendor and beauty of Peterloon.
Peterloon was the historic Georgian-style home of Cincinnati developer, philanthropist and arts patron, John J. Emery and his wife, Irene. It was designed by architect William Adams Delano of Delano & Aldrich, the leading country-house architectural firm in the United States. The house is a combination of Georgian and Queen Anne styles, and has 36 rooms, 19 fireplaces and 21 baths. The house was built in 1928 to rival the grandest houses of America and Europe.
For forty years, Peterloon has hosted spectacular events including successful nonprofit fundraisers, wedding celebrations, memorable holiday parties, music recitals and corporate retreats. The board of the Peterloon Foundation and staff are committed to enhancing their clients’ experience and determined that some event-oriented changes would help serve their guests.
Peterloon can host 250 individuals for an outdoor event. In the past, tents were typically placed on the back lawn surrounded by a breathtaking view of Peterloon’s stunning property. Utilizing this space, Peterlooon has added an expansive 55’x100’ hardscape terrace fashioned with attractive pavers that blends seamlessly with the historic appearance of the estate, complete with a walkway leading from the house and an adjacent catering space. The terrace was strategically designed to accommodate multiple sized tents. Whether you are planning a small and intimate outdoor affair or a large celebration, Peterloon can meet your needs. This area is not only perfect for tented occasions but can also be used for open air events and outdoor activities.
New first floor bathrooms, including an ADA compliant bathroom, have been added as well. The bathrooms are beautifully finished and carefully designed to reflect historic features of Peterloon.
The new additions parallel the magnificent historical artistry of Peterloon. When constructed in 1928, every detail of Peterloon was carefully chosen for its beauty and historical relevance from European castles and estates. As you tour the home you will find architectural and design treasures, such as the 400-year-old oak parquet de Versailles flooring in the living and dining rooms, and the 16th century Indigo Jones mantelpiece in the front hall. Your guests will marvel at the hand-carved Slavonian oak paneling from the mid-1600s. The masterful artistry found in each facet of Peterloon’s design makes the estate a magnificent and memorable venue.
The incredible splendor of the home is surrounded by gorgeous exteriors. The exterior walls are adorned with numerous animal carvings and statues, from snails and dolphins to a robust rooster and a basket full of adorable puppies. Strolling through a tunnel of natural foliage, you will find yourself entering an exquisite hidden garden that is picturesque for an intimate gathering or ceremony. The family’s European style swimming pool, including a fountain, is a spectacular backdrop for a romantic sunset photo.
Peterloon’s eternal elegance, natural outdoor beauty and opulent interiors complemented by the new terrace and bathrooms make it the ideal setting for your next meeting or event.
