Absent from U.S. markets for over two decades, Land Rover’s 2020 Defender is sure to leave a stunning impression with American drivers.

“Defender is the soul of the Land Rover line-up and we are excited to have this iconic vehicle back in the U.S.,” says Andy Wise, general manager at Jaguar Land Rover Cincinnati.

“The modern design and technology coupled with the go anywhere capability Defender has always been known for makes the 2020 Defender one of the most anticipated launches in Land Rover’s history.”

Its boxy, tough exterior may look familiar, but the new tech built into this beloved model is sure to please every Land Rover fan. The 2.0L i4 turbocharged gas engine brings 296 HP and the 3.0L i6 turbocharged MHEV clocks in 395 HP and maxes out at 129 mph. A hybrid engine is expected after rollout.

The Defender 110 has four doors, while the 2-door 90 model is more compact. The 110’s extra length increases the seating capabilities with three rows for seven passengers.

While the 2020 Defender pays homage to the Defender of old, it isn’t afraid to try new spins on the proven exterior design. The giant front grille has morphed into a more modern cover and the classic round headlights remain – but you’ll see a sophisticated redesign.

As a utilitarian SUV, the Defender is built to go over any terrain. The 32-inch overall-diameter tires are sure to protect and absorb shock that comes from any adventure. Designed and tested to handle extreme conditions, the Defender also boasts a suspension adjustment of up to 7.7 inches.

Inside, along with the rubber flooring installed throughout the entirety of the cabin, the flush door sills make it easy to clean any mud or dirt that goes hand-in-hand with off-roading and rough terrains. The seats are covered with grained leather with a steel-cut premium textile accent that brings both style and added durability.

Whether the Defender will be traversing the countryside or maneuvering suburban jungles and highway traffic, Land Rover offers a slew of ways to personalize and customize this vehicle.

Drivers can choose to open up with a folding fabric or a sliding panoramic roof while still providing protection from the elements outside. There are also seven striking colors to choose from and 12 wheel designs in four different sizes. You can also get ready for any expedition by selecting a roof rack or an exterior side-mounted storage compartment.

“2020 is going to be an amazing year for Land Rover enthusiasts and new owners that may have been exposed to the brand,” says Wise. “The heritage of the name Defender brings a smile to any Land Rover owner’s face, while the modern re-design will appeal to many that may have never considered a Land Rover before.”
