Greater Cincinnati residents living north of downtown will soon enjoy easier access to life-changing LASIK services.
Cincinnati Eye Institute (CEI) recently extended its highly sought-after LASIK services to their Middletown location. This expansion especially benefits the surrounding Butler and Warren counties and also provides easier access for Dayton residents. CEI ophthalmologists Alison Early, M.D. and Megan Tuohy, M.D. perform LASIK in the Middletown surgery center.
“Cincinnati Eye Institute has been recognized as the area’s leader in eye care and surgery for over 75 years,” says Dr. Early. “As the metropolitan area grows, our practice recognizes the need to serve patients in northern suburbs. We’ve had a strong presence in Middletown for many years, providing a high volume of cataract, glaucoma, cornea and retina care to the aging population. We’re excited to expand our offering for laser vision correction with a brand new, state-of-the-art refractive surgery center right here in Middletown.”
Brooke Flint, CEI Senior Regional Director, credits the opening of the Middletown LASIK suite to CEI’s unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional patient care.
“With our strong focus on operational excellence, we’ve recognized the need to expand our facilities to better serve our growing community,” she notes. “This new suite enables us to incorporate advanced technologies and state-of-the-art LASIK equipment, empowering our medical professionals to provide LASIK services to patients in our Northern Cincinnati and Dayton areas.”
According to Dr. Early, vision correction treatment is often an emotional experience. She recalls the time one of her first LASIK patients sent her a note the morning after his surgery. It read, “I woke up at 1 a.m. and took my goggles off for a second and almost cried because I could see the details on the beautiful moon last night!” That message moved Early to tears.
“Imagine, less than 12 hours after surgery, being able to see the details of the moon for the first time ever without glasses!” she says.
Individualized Treatment Plans
Each LASIK patient evaluation begins with a thorough examination and a conversation about the patient’s medical and ocular history. “Everybody uses their vision differently, so selecting a treatment plan is highly individualized,” Dr. Early explains. Factors impacting treatment include the individual’s refractive error, i.e., nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia. Certain medical conditions, past ocular issues and normal anatomic variation may disqualify patients from LASIK surgery.
On the day of surgery, measurements obtained at the consultation appointment are used to design a customized treatment plan. “At CEI,” Dr. Early says, “we perform all-laser, blade-free LASIK, which is the highest standard of care for our patients.”
The procedure typically takes less than 30 minutes. Many patients see better than 20/20 by their next-day, follow-up appointment, she notes.
While there are risks with any surgery, LASIK eye surgery has one of the lowest complication rates of any medical procedure or surgery. In addition, LASIK eye surgery has the highest patient satisfaction rate of any elective eye surgery, with more than 96% of patients reporting they are happy with their visual outcome.
